Gallon ratings are a guide, not a specification, and they differ between manufacturers. What matters is the flat width and the length: a 24" x 32" liner wraps a can with roughly a 15" diameter and leaves enough to cuff over the rim. Measure your bin once and buy to the dimension from then on.

Where 0.8 mil is enough
0.8 mil handles paper towels, packaging and dry front-of-house waste at low cost. It is not the liner for kitchen waste — bones, cans and glass will punch through, and double-bagging a thin liner costs more than buying a thicker one. For kitchen bins go to 1.5 mil or heavier.
